That looks yummy, right? It’s a vegan poke bowl, filled with goodness. It’s a Hawaiian dish inspired by Japanese cuisine.
Apparently poke bowls are the new thing and are very trendy nowadays (you’ve probably seen it on social media). It might be the next generation of sushi, coming from Hawaii.
As I love the concept, I couldn’t find any vegan version of it. And even when I went to Hawaii I had to ask to make it without the raw fish and nothing was proposed to replace it.
So here it is a vegan option for poke bowl and it’s so tasty !
How to do a vegan poke bowl?
It’s very easy !
Technically, to create a (regular) poke bowl you’ll need some (1) POKE (marinated raw fish) with (2) rice on the bottom, (3) topped off with an assortment of veggies and even some fruit, for a sweet touch.
I have already published how to do a vegan poke, made with tofu (or any vegetable substitute) instead of raw fish. You could use my marinated base for any raw fish too, if you like it this way.
A poke bowl is very versatile and you have actually plenty of options to do it :
1. a base : brown rice or quinoa, noodles
2. traditional poke (made with raw fish) or my vegan poke
3. topping : everything you like the most.
The vegan poke bowl recipe that I publish here is an easy VEGAN recipe for lunch or dinner. It has (1) brown rice, (2) marinated tofu (vegan poke), (3) and I choose for topping pineapple, avocado, radishes, carrot, broccolini, edamame, cucumber, coriander, sliced jalapeno
This poke bowl is insanely good and so satisfying ! It’s a customizable dish, with a lot of textures, flavors and nutrients.
How to make a poke bowl party?
You could even try a DIY poke bowl bar for a dinner with friends.
Actually, prepare a table with different bases, some poke and different toppings, to let everybody choose and create his own bowl !
Top Tip
I usually use brown rice (black or red rice) when I cook because itβs healthier than white rice.
In general I try to avoid white rice, white pasta, white bread, etc…because they have very few essentials nutrients to offer.
White rice is not even that tasty. Black rice on the other side has an incredible nutty flavor and the whole family love it. You should try it once, if you don’t have yet.
By the way, I have a delicious (cold) black rice pomegranate salad on the blog too.
Healthy vegan poke bowl and…
Sweet and salty, Hawaian style, satisfying & healthy !
